This
year to commemorate 'World Water Day',
Dadex
announced
the top three winners for their famed
‘WaterWise Art Contest 2006’ for children in
Lahore
on March 19, 2006.
The top three winners from two age groups,
8-10 year and 11-13 years, were awarded
prizes and certificates in a colourful prize
distribution ceremony held at Ali Institute
of Education in Lahore
Over 50 leading schools participated in the
art contest and an outstanding number of
individual entries were received from
students of the participating schools. The
contest invited children between the ages of
08-10 years and 11-13 years to paint posters
on themes that included: ‘Water for Life’
and ‘Let’s conserve together’ respectively.
The activity partners for the art contest
were the World Wide Fund for Nature –
Pakistan, who conducted awareness campaigns
for a month in different schools and shared
information on water conservation among
school children
The
Chief Guest,
Mr.
Nayyar Ali Dada, renowned architect of
Pakistan awarded prizes and certificates to
the
top three winners from two age groups and
appreciated the Water Wise art contest
organised by Dadex and stressed the need to
educate our new generation about water
Conservations issues. He further explained
that children are the real assets of our
country and imparting the awareness of water
preservation will help Pakistan make a rapid
headway in the comity of nations
Noted writer Munno bhai who was the
key note speaker at the event said that Art,
in its broadest meaning, is the expression
of creativity or imagination. He further
explained that Art of any type or medium
allows kids to express their emotions, to
learn and develop appreciation for art. It’s
wonderful when we provide art projects for
them or when they are encouraged to express
their creative side. Through these
interesting, motivational occasions students
have enhanced their education concerning
ground water, water conservation, properties
of water and water pollution. Messages
communicated through artistic styles to
teach people of all ages to better care for
and make wise decisions about water
Top 50 entries were
displayed at the event which was evaluated
by the judges. The paintings successfully
highlighted how life revolves around water,
how Pakistan’s water supply is being
polluted, and what can be done for a more
WaterWise Pakistan.
The panel of
Judges
included Dr. Shagufta Shah Jehan, Director
(Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency),
Ms. Beena Qureshi, Consultant, I Rehman,
Director (Human Rights Commission Pakistan)
and Mr. Amjad Aslam, Head of Communications
(WWF-Pakistan) and R. Naeem, National
College of Arts.
The art contest was
supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature
– Pakistan.
Dadex has been promoting the cause of
water conservation for the past two years in
Pakistan through active advertising of
public service messages in the newspapers
and magazines and sponsoring related events.
